FLAG COMMEMORATION & REMEMBRANCE DAY WALK

Written by admin. Posted in General

6th November – The Flag Commemoration will be held at the Brighton General Cemetery on the paved area outside the Office at 9.30 for a 10am start. Marking Remembrance week, the flags will be flying until the 16th November 2026. This is the tenth in a series of 50 graves to have a flag flying to honour their sacrifice for King and Country.

15th November 2026 – Remembrance Day Walk at 2pm. On this walk we will be talking about the largely unknown brave men and women who served their country during various wars. Leading Seaman John Lawrence Baldwin served in Korea, Squadron Leader Keith William Truscott played for the Melbourne Football Club, he shot down eleven German aircraft, probably destroyed another three, and damaged two, Able Seaman James Harold McGowan serving on HMS Trinidad that during convoy PQ 13, the Trinidad’s own malfunctioning torpedo struck her hull, killing 32 men. These are but a few of those that we will be getting to know on this walk. We honour and remember them today.
