Walk at 10am, 12 midday and 2pm – Generous in Thinking – Generous in Doing
Australia in the mid 1800s to the 1950s was an exciting time with gold miners, land boomers, entrepreneurs and politicians all making Australia an interesting place to live. Women of this period though did not have the rights and freedom, the men did, so they became innovative in their approach. Come and meet 7 woman who are an inspiration to males and females alike as they made a significant difference which still impacts Australia today. They set up infant milk services, baby health care centres and helped mothers in need; her discovery of the existence of more than one strain of the polio virus has been acknowledged as a step toward the Salk vaccine and created the most effective rabbit eradication system which is still used by farmers Australia wide. They were feisty, fighting and influencing within local councils to start the first Meals on Wheels in the Caulfield area and rise to be Mayor. Then there were the quiet achievers such as the sisters who in 1954, set up a philanthropic trust which has helped 3000 organisations and still provides support today and who can forget the Matron of Nurses taking wounded soldiers back home to SA and NSW after arriving on hospital ships berthed in Melbourne.
So come and join us on this inspiring walk and leave wondering what you can you do to make Australia better?
Ring Lois on 9558 4248 if you would like to book on one of the walks.
